When it comes to the Rheinhessen region, the most famous area is undoubtedly the Roter Hang region in the eastern part of the region, which is close to the Rhine River. "Roter" means red in German. As the name implies, the soil in this area is entirely red slate, and the wines produced here have a unique style and are highly representative. Roter Hang was once literally translated as "Red Slope", but now Uncle Lei has given it a more resounding name: Red Cliff.
Weingut Gunderloch is located in the wine village of Nackenheim in the Rheinhessen region of Germany. It was founded in 1890 by banker Carl Gunderloch and has been continuously cultivated by six generations. All the wines of Weingut Gunderloch come from the Red Cliff. The vineyards, from north to south, are the Rothenberg (Red Mountain) vineyard, the Pettenthal vineyard, and the Hipping vineyard, all of which are grand cru vineyards in the core area of Roter Hang. The winery offers a full range of wines, from entry - level wines to top - tier GG wines and even noble rot sweet wines.
Among the grape varieties planted by Weingut Gunderloch, 80% is Riesling, and the others include Silvaner, Muller - Thurgau, Rulander, Kerner, and Scheurebe. In addition to having the best vineyards, they also put a lot of effort into manual farming and harvesting. The average yield per hectare is controlled at around 4,500 liters - which is extremely low in Germany. This is to concentrate the nutrients of the grapes and produce wines with a richer taste and aroma. Their requirements for the maturity of each grade are much higher than the legal standards.
